Joan McMurray and Louise Jarvis are sisters and the original founders of the Chosen Soldier Program.
Joan McMurray is from Toronto and worked as a librarian and her sister Louise Jarvis lives in Sudbury.
Since 2006 these sisters have worked at making the lives of deployed soldiers more comfortable.
It's estimated that this program has helped some 11,000 CF Soldiers since it's inception!
The program came to being when a fellow employee of a library in Toronto said to Joan that she was sending a care parcel to her child in Afghanistan. Joan knew she wanted to be involved and told a few people, and before she knew it, more and more people were getting on board.
Much has changed since the original program kicked-off.
The spirit of this and new programs will remain the same. Children's programs, churches, businesses, sports teams and community groups want the opportunity to show support for members of the Canadian Forces
